As a third-generation construction professional, the industry has always been part of my story — even though my path to it wasn’t a straight line. After exploring other fields and gaining hands-on experience across multiple roles, I discovered a deep passion for construction rooted in collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving. Legacy Builders was created to give students the kind of hands-on, immersive exposure to construction careers that I wish I’d had growing up.
Beth Marchant
Vice President
I come from a long line of family members in the trades and construction, which shaped my respect for craftsmanship and doing things right from an early age. With a background in graphic design and marketing, I focus on translating building science and technical construction knowledge into clear, engaging stories that elevate how our industry is understood and valued. As Vice President of Legacy Builders, I’m passionate about supporting youth, strengthening the future of skilled trades, and building a more informed, inclusive construction industry.

Jeff Shantz
Board Chair
Jeff Shantz is a Partner and Vice President of Project Development at Melloul-Blamey Construction, bringing nearly 40 years of experience across site supervision, project management, and building design. Throughout his career, Jeff has been deeply involved in guiding complex commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects from concept through completion, combining proven construction practices with modern design and technology..
Jason Church
Board Member
Jason Church brings more than 25 years of experience in building materials and construction supply to his role with Legacy Builders. As an Account Manager in Business Development at Hewson Brothers Building Supply, he supports projects across multiple sectors while drawing on a hands-on understanding of the full construction supply chain. A long-time volunteer with the Business & Education Partnership Waterloo Region, Jason is deeply committed to mentoring youth and promoting skilled trades as a respected, rewarding career path.
Susan Carey
Board Member
Susan Carey began her career in healthcare before transitioning into construction health and safety, driven by a desire to prevent workplace injuries and build safer, stronger teams. Her passion for workforce development and inclusion is reflected in her leadership as President-Elect of CAWIC, where she actively champions women in the skilled trades. As a Legacy Builders board member, Susan is committed to breaking down outdated stigmas and helping shape a more diverse, empowered, and future-ready construction workforce.
