INSTRUCTIONS

Legacy Bidders Game Setup

Divide the class into 8 teams, roughly in groups of 3-4 people. (If a class has less than 26 students, you can drop a full trade group and just do the GC and two trades with 3-4 people on a team.)

Two competing general contractors will be the team leaders. Each general contractor will get one door and window trade, one appliance trade, and one flooring trade. Please write on the GC title page which trade is assigned to each one so you know who is on the winning GC team.

The goal of the game is to come up with the lowest total price from all your trades to win the project to build the building.

Do not worry too much about the math being perfect. The team with the lowest overall price wins the game.

  • After the time is up (a timer will go off if the instructors set one), all the trades will have to submit their estimates of the prices of their items to the general contractor.

  • The general contractor will be given 15 more minutes to tally up all the numbers given to them. Once the 15 minutes are up, they have to stop immediately and hand it to the owner (which is the instructor), and the winning team will be chosen.

  • It does not matter if the numbers match the answer booklet. The group with the lowest total for the building wins the project. As in the real world, if they made mistakes, they will have to deal with it as the project builds. Etc. etc.

  • You will be given 30-40 minutes to do your price take-off. This means, depending on which trade you are in, you are going to focus on the specific item on the drawing that you are providing to the project.

  • For example, if you are in the appliance trade, you will calculate the cost of supplying and installing all the appliances in the building.

  • If you are in the flooring trade, you will calculate the cost of supplying and installing all the flooring for the building.

  • The same goes for the doors and windows; you will calculate the cost of supplying and installing all the windows and doors.

  • As the team leads, the general contractor will have to calculate their own cost of managing the whole project and totaling all the trade prices once they are submitted to them to hand to the owner.
