Legacy Builders: Building Futures, One Student at a Time
Presented by Melloul-Blamey Construction & Hewson Bros Building Supply Initially started with the GVCA & the Leaders in Construction Committee
A Vision That’s Evolved—and Only Getting Bigger
What started in 2022 as a grassroots initiative by the Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) and its Leaders in Construction (LinC) Committee has blossomed into a high-impact, independently driven program: Legacy Builders, now proudly coordinated and ran by Melloul-Blamey Construction and Hewson Bros. Building Supply.
Though its roots remain grounded in community and opportunity, the Legacy Builders program has grown beyond its original vision—reaching more students, gaining new momentum, and looking boldly toward the future of the construction industry.
From Spark to Movement
When Legacy Builders launched, the aim was simple but ambitious: introduce 300 students to career possibilities in construction within the first year. The result? A FULLY BOOKED SCHEDULE FOR 2025/2026—with a waitlist.
That early success made one thing clear: the demand for meaningful, hands-on career exploration in construction is massive. And Legacy Builders was ready to meet it.
New Leadership, Same Heart
With Melloul-Blamey and Hewson Bros. stepping in as program presenters, Legacy Builders is now entering a new chapter. These two respected names in the construction industry bring fresh energy, strategic support, and an even stronger commitment to community engagement.
Their investment ensures that Legacy Builders not only continues—but thrives.
What Makes Legacy Builders So Impactful?
1. Real-World Connections
Industry professionals share their own stories, giving students a look at the diverse and fulfilling paths that a construction career can offer.
2. Immersive Learning with Legacy Bidders
Students take on the role of project managers in a fun, gamified experience where they learn the challenges and rewards of real-world construction projects.
3. Tangible Takeaways
Every student walks away with a comprehensive Careers in Construction booklet—complete with salary ranges, training pathways, and apprenticeship opportunities.
4. A Sense of Belonging
Branded hats and hoodies help students feel like they’re already part of something bigger: a growing, vibrant industry that values their potential.
A Look Ahead
Ontario will need over 100,000 new skilled trades professionals over the next decade. Legacy Builders is answering that call—one classroom, one student, and one hands-on session at a time.
And with Melloul-Blamey and Hewson Bros. leading the way, the program is scaling faster than ever, with new schools, new partnerships, and new goals on the horizon.
Stories That Stick
One standout moment came from a Grade 8 class where not a single student had previously considered a career in construction. By the end of the session? Nine students—over a third of the class—raised their hands, excited about the possibility.
That’s the kind of spark that Legacy Builders was built to ignite.
